The Garda inquiry was continuing today into the cause of a fire in Dublin flat that killed two people in the early hours of yesterday morning. The fire is being treated as suspicious.

The bodies of Joseph Burke (51) and Catherine Dunne (23) from Windmill Crest, Crumlin were found after a fire in Mr Burke's flat on the South Circular Road.

"The scene is still being examined and we are treating the fire as suspicious," a Garda spokeswoman said. She declined to give any further details.

It was reported yesterday that the smell of petrol could be detected at the scene. A gun was also reportedly found but it is now believed that it was a replica.
