The Environmental Protection Agency and the Health and Safety Authority are to investigate a fire at a waste water treatment plant belonging to pharmaceutical company Warner Lambert at Ringaskiddy in Cork.

The blaze broke out in one of the enclosed concrete tanks in the company's waste water plant which are currently under construction. It is understood sealant in the tanks caught fire at about 10.50 a.m.

Firefighters from the company's emergency response team, who were later joined by three units of Cork City Fire Brigade and a unit of Cobh Fire Brigade, brought the fire under control.
