Youth critical after attack in Ballymun

A teenage boy remained in a critical condition in the Mater hospital in Dublin last night following an assault in Ballymun on Friday night.

The 16-year-old youth suffered severe head injuries in the attack which happened at about 10pm on Shangan Road. Two men aged 32 and 23 were arrested in relation to the assault and appeared in court on Saturday charged with assault causing harm. They were remanded in custody and are to appear at Cloverhill Court on Wednesday.

Labour TD in hospital protest

Labour TD Joe Costello continued his weekly protest outside Dublin's Mater hospital on Saturday, five years after he started it. "Certainly I didn't expect that we'd be here for five years. I expected there would be major changes in that time," the Dublin Central TD said as he marched with about 20 supporters outside the hospital's AE department.

British-Irish body to meet tonight

Up to 60 members of the British-Irish Inter- Parliamentary Body, a grouping of backbenchers from these islands, gather in Wexford tonight for their 36th plenary conference which opens this morning. The members will discuss the North-South peace process, improving relations between the islands and the mounting drugs menace.

Body of woman found in Galway

Gardaí in Galway are not treating as suspicious the discovery of a woman's body on the shoreline at Furbo, Co Galway yesterday. Her body was taken to University College Hospital, Galway for a postmortem examination.
