Man (25) held over murder of teenager
A man was custody in Limerick last night over the murder of a teenager in the city last month.
Darren Bennett (18) died following a stabbing incident near his home in Craeval Park, Moyross, Limerick, on March 18th last.
The latest arrest in connection with the continuing murder investigation took place in Co Clare yesterday morning.
A 25-year-old man was arrested in Ennis at 8.35am and was being held for questioning last night at Mayorstone Garda station under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
He is the third person to be arrested in connection with the murder of Mr Bennett.
Last week two men aged 30 and 34 were taken in custody. Both were later released without charge and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Blow to head killed 'good Samaritan'
An inquest into the death of a “good Samaritan” who died from an injury sustained while aiding another man who was being assaulted heard that he died from a blow to the head.
Michael Cronin (41), Clondrinagh, Coonagh, Co Limerick, died at Cork University Hospital on June 8th, five weeks after he suffered the injury during an incident on Hyde Road in Limerick city.
Mr Cronin received a blow to the head after he went to the defence of the young man on May 11th.
The inquest was opened at Cork City Coroner’s Court yesterday, but was adjourned under section 25 of the Coroner’s Act as criminal proceedings continue.
State Pathologist Prof Marie Cassidy said Mr Cronin died of a brain injury as a result of blunt force trauma to the head. He had also suffered seizures that contributed to the brain injury.
One man has appeared in court in Limerick in relation to the case.
Inquest adjourned for criminal inquiry
A man who collapsed and died outside a Cork pub after being refused alcohol died of neck compression, an inquest heard yesterday.
Anthony Hennessy (41), Chapel Field, Gurranebraher, Cork, collapsed outside a bar on the north side of the city in March last year. An inquest into his death was opened at Cork City Coroner’s Court but Supt Con Cadogan of Gurranebraher Garda station requested it be adjourned as criminal proceedings are continuing.
State Pathologist Prof Marie Cassidy said Mr Hennessy died of neck compression with acute alcohol consumption as a contributory factor.
