The value of immigrants in the running of schools, community centres and other community infrastructure will be highlighted today.

Models on the participation of immigrants in Tallaght and five European partners will be studied at the conference.

Minister for Integration, Conor Lenihan; chairman of the European Muslim Council, Sheikh Shaheed Satardien; and chairwoman of the National Action Plan Against Racism, Lucy Gaffney, will be among the guest speakers at the event in Tower Hotel, Tallaght.

Workshops will also take place examining best practice models for immigrant participation in the community; building capacity and skills in the community to promote integration; and mainstreaming public services to engender integration, rather than offering special provision.
