High-tech Cork firm cuts workforce by 160

Components manufacturer Bourns Electronics Ireland announced today it was cutting 160 jobs at its plant in Mahon in Cork.

Components manufacturer Bourns Electronics Ireland announced today it was cutting 160 jobs at its plant in Mahon in Cork.

In a statement, the company whose plant in Mahon has operated in Cork for 21 years, said it was relocating its operations to Mexico and Costa Rica.

Bourns Electronics Ireland makes electronic components for the automotive, telecommunications, aerospace and computer industries and the Cork operation includes technical support and customer service centres for its European market.

70 employees will be retained in a restructured operation in Cork.
