Pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline is to expand its manufacturing facility in Dungarvan, Co Waterford and create 50 new jobs.
The jobs will be crated over three years as part of a €30 million expansion that will see the production of an aid to stop smoking.
The jobs will be in the areas of production, quality, technical and engineering.
GSK recently completed a €23 million expansion at the site. Announced in January 2007, the investment establishes a new granulation and compression facility and provided increased production capacity for the introduction of new pain killers.
Minister for Social and Family Affairs and local TD Minister Cullen said the two investments were “a major vote of confidence in the Dungarvan facility and in the capabilities of the town of Dungarvan”
“The investments underpin the existing operation and its workforce, and will create excellent additional employment opportunities.”
GSK employs 1,450 people in Ireland and first established operations here in 1975. It has two manufacturing operations in Dungarvan and is the largest employer in the town with almost 700 staff.
The Dungarvan plant produced over-the-counter pharmaceuticals for brands such as Panadol, Panadol Extra, Coldrex and Solpadeine. It was established in 1987.
