Gardai warned parents through out Co Tipperary yesterday to keep an eye on their children following abduction attempts on two young boys over the weekend.
The incidents, which are not believed to be related, have prompted gardai to advise parents to be on the alert.
The first reported abduction attempt occurred in Clonmel on Thursday evening when a 10year-old boy was approached as he was walking home by a man and a woman in a small grey car at the entrance to Toberaheana Housing Estate in the Marlfield Park area. The woman in the passenger side rolled down the window and asked him his name and if he would get into the car. When the boy refused he was told by the woman she would have to speak to his parents about him.
The child ran away and the car drove into the entrance of Toberaheana Estate. The car had its back seats pulled down, was dirty on the inside and clean on the outside.
The man was described as being in his late 20s, clean-shaven with short dark hair while the woman, in her late 20s, was described as having dark curly shoulder-length hair.
Meanwhile, gardai in Cahir are investigating a similar incident at Beechpark housing estate where a blue or dark coloured car approached a 7 1/2year-old boy at 12.30 p.m. on Saturday and the two occupants, a man and a woman, attempted to lure the child into their car. The boy ran away and the car drove away towards Clogheen.
The man is described as being in his 50s with black receding hair, a black moustache, glasses and a black jacket.
His woman passenger is described as being in her 30s with blonde hair. She was wearing a white fleece jacket.
