Gardai in Dublin have seized drugs with an estimated street value of £4.7 million. The haul is one of the biggest of its kind to date.

Gardaí from the National Drugs Unit and National Surveillance Unit seized 15 kilogrammes of heroin as well as 100,000 ecstasy tablets after a car was stopped and searched in Lucan early this morning.

Follow-up searches at locations in the West Dublin area resulted in the seizure of another half-kilogramme of heroin and an imitation firearm.

Three men and two women, all in their thirties, have been arrested. Four of those arrrested are being held at Blanchardstown Garda Station; the fifth is being detained in Kevin Street Garda Station.

All are being held under Section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act and can held for up to seven days.
