A garda accused of stealing over €3,000 through false allowance claims, was yesterday sent forward for trial to Limerick Circuit Criminal Court.

Ciarán Folan (40) Ramstown, Fethard-on-Sea, Co Wexford, is charged with five counts of theft under the Theft and Fraud Offences Act 2001.

Garda Folan, who is stationed in Newross, Co Wexford, is alleged to have stolen various sums of money, namely “the property of the Minister for Justice”, on dates between September 2007 and January 2008.
