"The leadership of Óglaigh na hÉireann takes this opportunity of the 85th anniversary of the l916 Easter rising to thank the volunteer soldiers of Óglaigh na hÉireann. We salute you and commend you in your determination, bravery and steadfast opposition to British rule in Ireland.

"We would also like to thank our supporters at home and abroad for their continued support for the struggle for national liberation. In particular we would like to send solidarity greetings to republican prisoners of war in gaols at home and abroad.

"As we approach the 20th anniversary of the 1981 hunger strikes which resulted in the deaths of ten courageous young Irishmen, we call on the Republican community to support the campaign for the restoration of political status. We must continue the struggle to smash the criminalisation of these republican prisoners of war and their cause to ensure the deaths of the 1981 hunger strikers were not in vain.

"This Easter, as always, Irish people throughout the 32 counties have a unique opportunity to reaffirm their faith in the creed of Easter 1916 and express their support for that continuing struggle today to unite our land and win self determination for the Irish people.

"National liberation has not been achieved. British manipulation, coupled with treachery on the part of others, has led to and has upheld the partition of Ireland. For the solution we must look, in radical terms, to attacking the cause of Ireland's problems.

"Partition has failed and those who attempt to uphold it will fail. As for Republicans, we will continue to attack the problem at its root and make no apology for undertaking this necessary task. We will continue our struggle until the 32 county socialist republic has been achieved."
