The Garda Siochana and the RUC have joined forces to carry the Special Olympics Torch across Ireland, North and South. The Torch Run, sponsored by Eircell, is part of a fund raising effort for the Special Olympics, which opens in Dublin at the end of this month, and to raise awareness of people with learning difficulties.

The Torch Run got underway last Wednesday and in the course of its nine day relay will cover 900 miles across Ireland. It will end in Dublin on June 27th, when the Special Olympics will be opened at Belfield in a ceremony attended by the President, Mrs Robinson.
