Buy one-third white, two thirds red, allowing at least half a bottle per person Buy by the case, on a sale or return basis - and ask for a case discount
Ask your wine merchant to supply glasses, too. (Book them ahead, in this bedlam season.)
Keep the white nicely chilled outside the back door
