Washington - The Independent Counsel, Mr Ken Starr, may call Mrs Hillary Rodham Clinton as a witness in a criminal trial as her campaign for a Senate seat gathers momentum, Joe Carroll reports.

It was revealed yesterday that Mrs Clinton's name is on the prosecution witness list in the trial of her former legal colleague in Arkansas, Mr Webster Hubbell, due to begin in August. He is accused of fraudulent practice in connection with a property development on which he worked with Mrs Clinton when they were both lawyers in the Rose Law firm in Little Rock, Arkansas. She is referred to over 30 times in the indictment of Mr Hubbell who was later appointed to a senior post in the Department of Justice by President Clinton in 1993.
