A massive fire which has caused extensive damage at the Glanbia meat factory in Rooskey, County Roscommon is threatening up to 450 jobs.

Firefighters from Roscommon, Leitrim and Longford are still trying to bring the fire under control. The blaze started at around 2.30 p.m. this afternoon.

The company would not speculate at this early stage about what effect the fire would have on job losses, but, said that its main priorities were to get the blaze under control and to evaluate what damage had been done to the plant and to see what efforts are needed to bring it back to full operation.
