Mid-October is usually one of the quieter weekends on the calendar and this year proves no exception with perhaps the continued dry weather providing the main highlights.

In sport Treviso travel to for tress Thomand Park tomorrow to take on a Munster team still smarting from recent losses to local rivals Leinster and English team Northampton. The vital Heineken Cup pool one clash kicks off at 1:35pm.

In Waterford City up to 1,000 people are expected to take part in the Run For Life 10k event on Sunday. Organisers hope to raise at least €500,000 for the local cancer support centre through the race.

For the nippers there’s the largest Irish arts festival devoted exclusively to children in Galway. The Baboró International Arts Festival features shows from all over Europe as well as workshops, exhibitions and literary events. The festival’s week-long run in the city comes to an end this Sunday.

In Dublin, at the other end of the scale, the over 50s show will takes place in the RDS all weekend. Last year over 20,000 people attended the event so traffic around the area is expected to be heavy.

Also in Dublin motorists are reminded of large crowds expected to turn out to pay their respects at Stephen Gatley’s funeral tomorrow. The funeral service takes place at St Laurence O’Toole Church on Sheriff Street at noon.

Gardaí also expect delays on Ballinteer Ave in relation to the funeral of Captain Derek Furniss at St John the Evangelist Church tomorrow. The service will start an noon and the remains will then travel from the church to Kilmashogue cemetery on Edmondstown Road.

Weatherwise the weekend is looking bright with Met Eireann forecasting good sunny periods forecast for today, highest temperatures 13 to 16 degrees. Tomorrow will be dry and bright with sunshine breaking through after any early mist and fog. While Sunday will see some light and patchy rain before the deluge forecast for next week finally hits the country on Monday evening.
