"He's the talented one," is not something you'd hear in the company of the Gleeson brothers - because actor Brendan Gleeson and traditional singer Barry Gleeson have each been dealt their fair share of talent. The brothers got together for a pint at Beamish and Crawfords in Fitzwilliam Square, along with actor Sean McGinley, for the launch of the Des Carty Summer School in Tallaght, at which Barry will host a masterclass in singing.

Ciaran Mac Mathuna delivered a cupla focal, and The Mandies (formerly the Tallafornia Mandolin Band) provided the music, after which Brendan was dragged up to display his hidden talent as a fiddle player.

Gleeson probably doesn't get much time to rosin his bow these days, because he's about to star as the General in John Boorman's movie of the life of noted Dublin criminal Martin Cahill. He won't say if he'll be donning the Mickey Mouse boxer shorts, but he did reveal that Sean McGinley will also be in the film.

Gleeson and McGinley have already been together in the film Trojan Eddie and in a recentlycompleted series, The Cut, a hardhitting cop series soon to be screened on RTE. "Sean plays a cop, and I play a baddie with good intentions," said Gleeson. "It's a good series, the scripts are excellent, and there are strong characters. It's not your usual genre stuff, it's got a bit of depth to it."
