It has been reported Ericsson Ireland has lost out on a contract to supply telecommunications equipment for Vodafone's rollout of 3G services in the Republic.

Rival telecommunications supplier Nokia is said to have been awarded the lucrative contract.

The decision is said to be a `serious setback' for the company's Irish operations which is based in Athlone.
