JOHANNESBURG - An experiment to give elephants contraceptive patches has been abandoned in South Africa because it left the animals' sex drive out of control. Instead of keeping the female elephants from going into heat, they were in heat constantly, drawing numerous amorous suitors.
The experiment at Kruger National Park was aimed at determining if chemical contraception could work.
