The Irish Times - Institute of Guidance Counsellors' Higher Options Conference

The Irish Times - Institute of Guidance Counsellors' Higher Options Conference starts tomorrow at 9am in the RDS Ballsbridge, Dublin. The conference is the largest forum of its kind in Ireland where Leaving Certificate students can discover the third-level choices are available to them. Universities from Ireland and the UK will be there along with Ucas, CAO and various professional and information bodies.

The conference runs from 9am to 3pm from tomorrow till Friday, September 21st.

A late-night opening on Thursday, September 20th - from 5.30pm to 8.30pm - is intended particularly to cater for parents of Leaving Cert students and those wishing to return to learning.

Music in the Classroom

There are still some places available for the Junior Certificate Music in the Classroom concerts.

Places remain for the concerts at 10.15am and noon on Monday, November 5th and 10.15am on Tuesday, November 6th.

The Irish Times Debate

Open to students at all third-level institutions on the island of Ireland, The Irish Times competition has produced an array of distinguished former winners, including Prof Anthony Clare, Prof David McConnell, Mr Justice Adrian Hardiman, Dermot Gleeson, Derek Davis, Marion Finucane, Gerry Stembridge, Dara O'Briain and Senator Ronan Mullen.

If you are interested in entering, or if you are the chair of a college debating society and would like to introduce yourself to this year's convenor, e-mail: debates@irish-times.ie.

Application forms will be sent out at the beginning of October.

Institute of Physics' Public Engagement Grant Scheme 2008

Do you have a fantastic idea for making physics accessible? Can you inspire other people with your enthusiasm? Do you need some support to make your outreach activity happen?

If you answered yes to all these questions, then you can apply for a public engagement grant from the Institute of Physics?

The grants are worth up to €1,000 and aim to support physics-based outreach activities throughout 2008.

The closing date for applications is November 2nd.

Workshop on autism

The Autism Network Guiding, Educating and Learning (Angel) is holding a two-day workshop for teachers, therapists and parents entitled "Establishing instructional control with children with autism" from Monday, November 12th to Tuesday, November 13th at the Glenroyal Hotel, Maynooth, Co Kildare.
