Twenty-five passengers were killed and 17 others were injured when a bus plunged into a ravine in the northern Ethiopian region of Tigre.

The bus was carrying 42 passengers when it skidded and plunged into the narrow gorge on the road linking the northern town of Mekele with Addis Ababa, regional police said.

The injured were taken to hospitals and an inquiry was under way to determine the cause of the accident, according to reports.

Late last month 17 people were killed and 27 were injured when a bus plunged into a ravine in northwestern Afar region.
