Copenhagen - Denmark said yesterday it would not allow basing of US missiles in Greenland if Russia were opposed, arguing a new US missile defence plan violated a landmark 1972 arms pact, Ritzau news agency said.

The US has not yet approached Denmark about stationing missiles in Greenland, the Foreign Minister, Mr Niels Petersen, said. But Denmark would block such a request unless Washington first reached an accord with Moscow on it.
