The Irish Farmers' Association has complained the criteria being used by Teagasc for assessing grain harvest losses are far too narrow. The complaint was made at a meeting between the organisation and Munster MEPs in Cork last weekend, when the farmers sought Teagasc's help in ensuring that EU compensation will be available.
Teagasc, the authority responsible for assessing the damage to this year's grain crop due to the bad weather in August, indicated that as few as 200 cereal farmers may qualify for compensation.
