The media were yesterday prohibited from publishing any report of proceedings involving the girl at the centre of what has become known as the C case. An order restraining reporting was made in the High Court by Mr Justice O'Higgins.

He said that on Wednesday there had been an application concerning the girl before him and the proceedings had been heard in camera. "No member of the press was present in court and that was right and correct because the proceedings concerned a minor."

He said it had been brought to his attention that the matter had received publicity in the press and he would make no comment about that other than to say that yesterday's proceedings were being heard in camera and that they were not to be reported by the press.

"That stricture applies until these proceedings are finished. It is clearly in the interests of the child that this matter concerning a minor is not in the public domain and is held in camera. "

Mr Felix McEnroy, counsel for the Eastern Health Board, said he would ask the court to make a specific order in that regard. Mr Justice O'Higgins said he would do so.

Mr McEnroy said he made his application because it might be necessary later to bring some other application before the court.

Some details regarding proceedings in the case last Wednesday were published in some newspapers yesterday.
