The Continuity IRA has said it was not involved in a gun at tack on the home of a Protestant family in Newtownbutler, Co Fermanagh, on New Year's Day. In a statement to The Irish Times, a CIRA spokesman said: "We deny responsibility. None of our volunteers were involved." A recognised code word was used. About a dozen shots were fired at the house. The family escaped injury.
