Candaian electronics firm Celestica is to close in Swords in north county Dublin with the loss of 250 jobs.

The company, which once employed over 1,000 people at its Swords facility, blamed the weak global technology market for its decision to close.

In 2000 Celestica shed 450 jobs in Swords after the collapse of a contract with Motorola and another 250 jobs in 2002 after the expected economic recovery failed to materialise.

Local Fianna Fáil TD Mr Jim Glennon described the closure as "extremely disappointing".
