Two car bombs exploded near an Iraqi checkpoint outside a US military base in the western town of Falluja today, killing eight Iraqi soldiers, police said.
Around 20 minutes later three mortar bombs were fired at the US base and three civilians were wounded in gunfire that followed, police said.
There was no immediate word from US forces on the incident.
