Call for minute's silence

ALL workers and their families' have been asked to observe a minute's silence at 1 p.m

ALL workers and their families' have been asked to observe a minute's silence at 1 p.m. on Monday as a tribute to Veronica Guerin and Det Garda Jerry McCabe.

The call comes from the Irish Congress of Trade Unions and is supported by the Irish Business and Employers' Confederation.

"Their murder cruelly exposes the threat posed to our democracy by criminals and terrorists," said Congress in a statement.

"The minutes silence will be a tribute to the courage of Veronica Guerin, Garda Jerry McCabe and all who have lost their lives in maintaining our democracy," said IBEC.
