ALL workers and their families' have been asked to observe a minute's silence at 1 p.m. on Monday as a tribute to Veronica Guerin and Det Garda Jerry McCabe.
The call comes from the Irish Congress of Trade Unions and is supported by the Irish Business and Employers' Confederation.
"Their murder cruelly exposes the threat posed to our democracy by criminals and terrorists," said Congress in a statement.
"The minutes silence will be a tribute to the courage of Veronica Guerin, Garda Jerry McCabe and all who have lost their lives in maintaining our democracy," said IBEC.
She had the courage to face up to those evil elements in our society, and in that sense has laid down her life for all of us" said the Church of Ireland Dean of Tuam, the Very Rev Anthony Previte, in a statement. The monthly meeting of Limerick County Council was adjourned for half an hour yesterday as a mark of respect.
