The US President George W Bush and the German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder said this afternoon that they had set aside past differences on Iraq and agreed to work together toward bringing stability to the country.

Mr Bush, with Mr Schroeder sitting at his side, told reporters he had told the German leader that "look, we've had differences, and they're over."

Mr Schroeder said: "Indeed we very much feel that the differences ... have been left behind."
