A British soldier today became the first member of the British armed forces to admit a war crime.
Corporal Donald Payne pleaded guilty to inhumanely treating civilians detained in Iraq.
The guilty plea was entered as seven British soldiers went on trial in connection with events in Iraq; three are accused of war crimes.
