Brazilian Marques signs for Minardi

Brazilian Tarso Marques signed a one-year contract to drive for the Minardi Formula One team this season, his spokesman said.

Marques is not new to the Italian team after starting 12 races for Minardi during the 1996 and 1997 seasons. He raced Formula Indy in 2000 with a season's best sixth place in Fontana.

The Brazilian, who will join three of his countrymen on the grid at the first Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne on March 4th teams up with Spaniard Fernando Alonso who signed with Minardi two weeks ago.

Marques is due to test the team car on an improvised circuit at Milan airport today.
