A schoolboy was yesterday charged with murder in connection with the fatal stabbing of a Leaving Certificate student last May.
Seán Nolan (18), Griffith Court, Fairview, Dublin, died following a row on May 26th last.
A 17-year-old boy, who cannot be identified because he is a juvenile, was charged at the Dublin Children's Court yesterday morning with the murder of Mr Nolan, at Waterloo Road, in Dublin.
Garda Insp Patrick Conlon of Donnybrook station told Judge Ann Ryan that yesterday morning before court he charged the accused.
"In reply to the charge he had nothing to say," Insp Conlon said adding that the boy's parents were handed copies of the charge.
Judge Ryan was told that the State was seeking to withdraw a charge that had been brought earlier for assault causing harm.
The murder charge is to proceed on indictment, in the Central Criminal Court.
Another charge for producing a 10-inch bread knife and a six-inch kitchen knife during a dispute is also to proceed.
The south Dublin teenager, who was dressed in a dark suit, with a white shirt and navy blue tie, remained silent during the brief proceedings.
Until yesterday he had been subject to strict bail conditions stating he had to reside at his family address, obey a curfew to be indoors at his home between the hours of 11pm and 7am and sign on at Donnybrook Garda station.
They had also been varied earlier to allow his parents to bring him to locations within the jurisdiction at weekends. However, after the boy was charged with murder yesterday Insp Conlon made an application for a remand in custody for one week.
Judge Ryan remanded the boy in custody for a week pending the preparation of the book of evidence in the case.
She was also told that a production order had been made to have the boy brought before the High Court sitting in Cloverhill to make a bail application later. Legal aid was also extended to the new charge.
The deceased student's parents were also present at the court yesterday.
