Blackburn will offer manager Graeme Souness a new contract in the summer even if the club are relegated.
Souness's three-and-a-half year deal expires at the end of next season, and Blackburn are keen to begin talks before it enters its final 12 months.
Rovers want to retain Souness even if the club do make a swift return to the Nationwide League because they are pleased with what he has achieved since he took over in March 2000.
Souness (48) will clock up two years at Ewood Park on Thursday week and in that time he has guided Blackburn to promotion to the Premiership and won the Worthington Cup.
But their return to the top flight has not gone so well and they are in the relegation zone. Even if they do go down, however, Blackburn's board feel Souness is still the man to lead the team over the next two to three years.
Souness - who has managed Rangers, Liverpool, Galatasaray, Southampton, Torino and Benfica during his well-travelled career - has said previously that he would like Blackburn to be his last club.
