The public has been urged to stay away from Beaumont Hospital in north Dublin as an outbreak of the winter vomiting virus continues to spread.

Hospital authorities said adults should avoid Beaumont and that children would not be admitted.

The virus spread to five wards yesterday, forcing the cancellation of non-emergency surgery.

Ten cases have been confirmed since the outbreak at the weekend.
