Paris - France approved a bill yesterday granting limited autonomy to the Mediterranean island of Corsica, aiming to halt more than 30 years of nationalist violence and bombings.

In their final vote, deputies in the National Assembly narrowly approved the controversial bill, brokered by Socialist Prime Minister Mr Lionel Jospin and Corsican nationalists.
