Budapest - Hungary's leading Jewish organisation complained yesterday that a Hungarian exhibition prepared for Auschwitz had "barely concealed anti-Semitic undertones" and should be changed.

The Federation of Jewish Communities in Hungary said the exhibition, which the Prime Minister, Mr Viktor Orban, is due to inaugurate at the former concentration camp in Poland next May, "distorts the facts" of Hungary's treatment of the Jews. "The exhibit does not talk about anti-Semitism before 1914 and pushes off all responsibility on to the Germans for what happened during the 1930s and 1940s," the federation said in the daily newspaper, Nepszabadsag.
