Naturalist author and documentary maker Sir David Attenborough was one five recipients of honourary degrees at Trinity College Dublin today.

Sir David was conferred with a Doctor in Letters for his significant contribution to natural history and broadcasting over the last 50 years.

Author and satirist Terry Pratchett also conferred with a Doctor in Letters for his work as a writer. His efforts in confronting the taboo sourrounding Alzheimers disease were also lauded.

University of Cambridge professor of psychological criminology David P Farrington was conferred an honourary Doctor in Science, as were, the astrophysicist, Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell and Dame Ann Dowling, who is professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Cambridge.
