A SENIOR advertising manager with a provincial newspaper has settled his High Court action over his purported dismissal.

A SENIOR advertising manager with a provincial newspaper has settled his High Court action over his purported dismissal.

Raymond McGowan, of The Elms, Spollenstown, Tullamore, Co Offaly, who has worked for the Leinster Expresssince 1969, last month secured a temporary injunction preventing termination of his contract of employment.

The order was granted against Leinster Express Newspapers Ltd and Johnston Press Ireland Ltd, both of Main Street, Naas, Co Kildare, and against Leinster Express of Dublin Road, Portlaoise, Co Laois, from terminating his contract of employment.

Mr Justice Peter Charleton also made an order restraining the newspaper from appointing any person to Mr McGowan's position.

When the case again came before the court yesterday, Ercus Stewart SC, for Mr McGowan, told Mr Justice Daniel O'Keeffe the matter had been "settled amicably".

No terms of the settlement were revealed to the court.
