The 999 emergency number is not working from some landlines in Northern Ireland due to a technical fault. Police say it is still available to anyone using a mobile phone.

BT said yesterday: “As a result of a potential hardware problem at one of our main processors, situated in Belfast city centre, a number of customers across Northern Ireland are experiencing disruption to their normal service.

“A full team of engineers are currently on site and are working hard to restore full service as a matter of urgency.”
