A girl whose hand was caught in a manhole cover which should have been locked was awarded £50,000 in an infant settlement approved in the High Court in Cork by Mr Justice O'Sullivan yesterday. Philomena Quilligan sued Cork Corporation through her mother, Margaret, of St Martin's Park, Tralee, Co Kerry. At the time of the May 1995 accident, which occurred near her home at Spring Lane, Blackpool Cork, Philomena was two.
