How much for a week in the Balearics?

How much for a week in the Balearics?

Where:Mallorca

When:August 9th-16th

With the tour operatorPanorama is offering couples who are desperate to escape the summer gloom a week in a sunny-looking hotel on the island of Mallorca for just under €1,700. The package would have us stay in the Hotel Lagomonte which is, we are assured, in a quiet location not too far from the resort of Alcudia. The Lagomonte (which translates as "Lake Mountain") sits, funny enough, on the edge of Lake Menor, in the foothills of the island's mountain, and is apparently ideal for couples and families, although it is over a kilometre to the nearest beach. The charter flights leave Dublin at 9.50am on the Saturday, returning from Palma a week later at 7am.

On our ownAer Lingus flies directly to Mallorca, and earlier this week had flights to the Spanish island for just €66 one way. Unfortunately, we have to come home as well and, once taxes and charges are factored in, the cost of our airline tickets rises to €257.87 per person. The flight depart Dublin at 6.40pm on the Saturday, and the return flight leaves Palma at 10.55pm a week later. A room for a week at the hotel, via www.booking.com, costs €994. Getting from Palma to the resort in a taxi costs a fairly hefty €80 each way, but a shuttle bus costs just €26 per person return.
