One wants to get involved in fashion, the other in art. Now they’re joining forces. When Joanne Hynes makes her London catwalk debut at London Fashion Week next Tuesday, in collaboration with artist Helen Steele, her autumn winter show will celebrate her west of Ireland heritage with styling by Annemarie O’Connor, whose family roots are also in Galway.
We’re promised full-length tweed dresses, embellished Aran sweaters, knitted leather snoods along with hats made by the award-winning Irish basketmaking supremo Joe Hogan from Clonbur, his first foray into fashion. The collection’s streetwise edge is captured in its title “Les Guerriers” – a canny play on the French for warriors as well as gurriers – and Steele has designed the prints for nine dresses. Aux armes, citoyennes! Watch this space and keep an eye on joannehynes.com.
