“Produced by the Scott Motorcycle Company, the present motorcycle is not only a fine example of one of the most technologically advanced machines of its day, but it was restored, painted and pin-striped in the 1970s by the legendary Kenny ‘Von Dutch’ Howard,” says the auction house.

The bike features the infamous Von Dutch “flying eyeball” logo on the toolbox.

Interestingly, Von Dutch made a mistake with the date on the front number plate. He painted “1926” instead of the correct “1929”.

Prior to his death, McQueen gave the bike back to Von Dutch.

Honda pulls out of NEC show

HOT ON the heels of the announcement that the Paris Motorcycle Show is cancelled comes another withdrawal due to the economic crisis, as Honda confirms it will not be at the NEC bike show in Birmingham in November.

“The decision was taken following a range of budget and resource reallocation measures within Honda, as well as from a wider consensus in Honda to reduce marketing costs and the focus on public shows in 2009 as a result of the economic slowdown,” Honda said in a statement.

The motorcycle company added that it is going to concentrate instead on dealer launches of its 2010 range of motorcycles.
