Objections to Leopardstown plan

• Residents in the Leopardstown area of south Dublin have objected to plans to build a large housing development near the former British ambassador's home in Glencairn, Ballyogan, Dublin 18. Viscount Securities was given the green light by Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council to build 263 apartments, duplex units and houses on a 4.4-hectare site, which is bounded by Glencairn Drive and Leopardstown Racecourse car-park.

The Gallops Residents' Association and Leopardstown Valley Residents' Association have appealed the decision to An Bord Pleanála. Viscount Securities got the go-ahead to build a 20,604 sq m (221,779 sq ft) mixed-use development on 9.8 acres at Ballyogan Road and avenue in Kilgobbin, Dublin 18 last year. The development comprises a mixed-use two-storey building with a supermarket, 10 shops, a public library, community centre and health centre and three office blocks. The directors of Viscount Securities are Paul Sheeran, Sara McInerney, Angela Cotter and Michael Cotter.

Mixed-use scheme for D4

• The way has been cleared for developer David Daly to demolish numbers 45, 47 and 49 Shelbourne Road in Ballsbridge, Dublin 4 and build a four-storey mixed-use building. The buildings, currently home to McCabes newsagents, the Bridge Cafe and Ballsbridge Flower Shop, will be demolished to make way for a restaurant, shop, office, nine one and two-bed apartments, as well as a recessed penthouse level.

Last year Dublin City Council gave the thumbs-up for the scheme, but this was appealed to An Bord Pleanála by a resident of Estate Cottages, which is across the road from the scheme. Upholding the council's decision, the planning board granted permission on a number of conditions, including that the developer omit the penthouse level of the scheme.

70 apartments for Dun Laoghaire

• Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council has given the green light for the owners of Palm Trees on Johnstown Road, Dún Laoghaire to demolish the house to make way for a 70-unit apartment development. Fergus and Sheila Cooney have been given permission to demolish the house, located at 110 Johnstown Road, Dún Laoghaire, and build two four-storey apartment blocks and 70 underground car-parking spaces.
