From the front this 1930s bungalow in Bray looks like a modest family home, but from the back it's an entirely different house. Since the owners bought the double-fronted house four years ago they have renovated and extended it by adding a large and very contemporary kitchen extension at the rear.

Now the house at 70 Meath Road is for sale by private treaty through Sherry FitzGerald with an asking price of £330,000 (419,100).

Bungalows are flexible in their layout and the house currently has three bedrooms, a livingroom and the large eat-in kitchen. A fourth bedroom has been converted into a good-sized bathroom. This was a particularly successful conversion as there is now space in the room for a free-standing roll-top bath as well as a walk-in shower.

Two of the bedrooms are to the front off the wide hallway. The third bedroom has a large walk-in wardrobe which could be converted into an en suite.

The kitchen extension looks dramatic, with its wall of windows and sloping roof. The blue/green units along one wall are simple and contemporary looking and details such as the mosaic tiles and the metal windows and doors enhance the modern feel. Directly outside the kitchen is a wooden deck and beyond it a good sized garden has a lawn dotted with fruit trees.

This new part of the house incorporates a separate timber-panelled utility room and a toilet. The owners kept as many of the original features as possible so there are cast-iron fireplaces, including a working one in the bathroom, and polished pine floor boards in most of the rooms.

The house, which stands on 0.6 of an acre, is set well back from the road and the gardens are well planted and mature. A large outhouse at the back, which was once a garage, could be converted into an extra room.
