Creating a bathroom that's simply cool and clean

SIMPLE, streamlined and fresh as a daisy, the bathroom of 5 Longwood Avenue (see page 7) has an arty twist.

Formerly two rooms, the owner wanted to maximise the sense of space by incorporating mirrors which reflect light in from the garden.

The blue tiles from Mosaic Assemblers Ltd (01 6267668) cost €120 per sq m for a mix of Fidji and Bahama tiles. The tiles are on the countertops and around the bath for continuity.

The room is kept clutter-free thanks to the storage cabinets. The bathroom fittings and cupboards are from the Matki range. Tuam Heating and Plumbing Ltd (093 25026) says a similar sink, toilet and storage cabinets would cost around €1,500 plus Vat.

The wall sculpture by artist Liz Burgess (021 4706993) ties in perfectly with the tiles and keeps the space from being predictable. It cost around €500. For a streamlined look blinds are best. These ones are from Breen Interiors (01 4954743).
