Anyone who has seen Bilbao's famous Guggenheim museum will never forget the first sight of this extraordinary building, which in turn can look like beaten bronze or silver from the play of light on its titanium surface, writes Deirdre McQuillan

Now its architect, Frank Gehry, has applied his idiosyncratic ideas to a range of jewellery for Tiffany that, with its warped shapes and sharp angles, will appeal to those with a taste for unusual juxtapositions and combinations.

Materials include pernambuco wood (from Brazil and usually used in making violin bows), black gold and a kind of milky opal called cacholong stone. Some necklaces are composed of abstracted fish shapes, and blocky cufflinks have a strong architectural look to them.

Gehry's collection - which includes a fish toggle bracelet in sterling silver and wood, Morph earrings with diamond in 18K white gold, Torque cufflinks and a fish pendant of green chrysoprase - will be included when Tiffany opens at Brown Thomas later this month.
