These days you've got to make hay pretty quickly while the sun shines. Nicole, a London lass, knows all to well the transience of summer, so she's determined to big up the sun in the hope that it'll make more than a fleeting appearance. Like her heroes The Kinks and The Beach Boys, this has the seasonal touch.

A LAZARUS SOUL The Day I Disappeared Intent to Supply ***

With members of Future Kings of Spain and Mexican Pets in their ranks, and Joe Chester producing, these guys qualify as an Irish indie supergroup. Never mind the lyrical parallels with Radiohead's How to Disappear Completely - this blackly humourous tune sees the lighthearted side of total despair.

PADDY CASEY Addicted to Company SonyBMG ***

Most pop stars are addicted to drugs, but Paddy can't get enough of people, so potential girlfriends will have to share him with the rest of the crowd. Casey's aiming for a smooth, indie-soul sound here, somewhere between Lenny Kravitz and Jamiroquai, and it should keep his growing crowd of fans smiling.

EVE Tambourine Aftermath **

Rihanna has her umbrella, but Eve is armed with a tambourine, ready for when the rain stops and the block party starts again. Doesn't quite blow ya mind, though.

PRIMA J Rock Star Geffen **

Not a song about throwing TVs out the window - this is from the Bratz movie, the doll franchise that has been unkindly called trailer-trash Barbie. The song is sung by cousins Jessica and Janelle Martinez, and it's sassy enough for the pre-teen market without being racy enough to get parents in a lather.

KAISER CHIEFS  Angry Mob B-Unique ****

Look out: the peasants are revolting and they're gonna write a letter to the Telegraph. Here's a catchy call to the rabble to take up pens and revolt, using big words as weapons. I predict a quiet.
