The Best of Nickelback Volume 1

What? Canada's Nickelback are the second best-selling "foreign" act of the Noughties in the US, behind The Beatles? That's interesting, not least because in this neck of the woods Nickelback are largely regarded as a mainstream rock act famous for little more than regurgitating generic contemporary rock, and the fact that that lead singer Chad Kroeger is married to fellow Canuck rocker Avril Lavigne. Of course, neither this nor the fact that Rolling Stone earlier this year named Nickelback the second worst band of the 1990s will flutter the feathers of avid fans. Yet surely even the least discerning fan will listen to most of what's here and give it short shrift. Yes, there are a couple of hummable-though-you-hate-them tunes (How You Remind Me, Rockstar), but there's also enough turgid cheese to last you a lifetime. nickelback.com
