FundIt opens new door for Hynes

A number of Irish bands and musicians have recently taken to the website fundit.ie to generate income to fund their recording projects. The website accepts pitches from various creative projects and gives them a platform to raise money online.

Funding comes in tiered levels, and those who choose to donate are given “rewards” – usually a copy of the finished product, if applicable – based on the amount they choose to contribute.

Dubliner Nina Hynes, now based in Berlin, is one of the most recent musicians to launch their own FundIt programme. Her full-length debut Staroswas critically acclaimed upon its release in 2002, but motherhood means that her music career has taken a back seat in recent years. She intends to release her fourth album through money raised on the site, and plans to record it in both Berlin and Ireland.

“My music is again changing and I don’t want to miss the chance of recording this special crossroads in my lifetime,” she said.

Cork’s Tenpastseven also launched their FundIt campaign this week, and intend to record a three-track EP using “standard, binaural and surround-sound techniques” in France’s Studio Black Box. It will pay for the recording and pressing of the record, with patrons of the project receiving a copy of the one-off physical release. fundit.ie
